Christians fight no-fly zones

Remember when Michael Newdow won the legal challenge on behalf of his daughter to have the “under God” portion of the Pledge of Allegiance declared unconstitutional? Christians on the left and right were pissed! The most popular attack on Newdow was along the lines of “How dare he drag his daughter into his twisted crusade!”

That was last year. This year, dragging children into your own twisted crusade is all the rage :

A conservative Christian organization wants the no-fly zone over Walt Disney World to be removed so it can fly banners touting an anti-homosexuality Web site over a gay festival this week.

The Virginia-based Family Policy Network claims the no-fly zone infringes upon its right to preach freely during the Gay Days celebration.

The group hopes to include as part of its outreach planes pulling banners reading: “JESUS CHRIST: HOPE FOR HOMOSEXUALS.COM,” according to Joe Glover, the organization’s president.
. . .
Stephen Crampton, chief counsel for the American Family Association Center for Law and Policy, said Disney wanted no-fly zones around its properties to prevent competitors from advertising. Terrorism fears gave the entertainment giant the cover it needed, he said.

“We’re not advertising; we’re trying to reach a specific target audience with a very specific, noncommercial message,” said Crampton, whose association will handle the case for the Christian group. “But Disney and Disney alone has managed to achieve a total ban, effectively, on such speech.”

How hard is it to understand that Disney’s theme parks are a major terrorist threat? Terrorists are likely to target Disneyland and Disney World for the same reasons that bigots on the right and anti-corporate activists on the left are protesting : Disney theme parks are the biggest tourist draw in the world. Love it or hate it, Disneyland is as much a symbol of America as Mt. Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, or the World Trade Center. For that reason, a no fly zone is perfectly justified.

Isn’t there a no fly zone over the Super Bowl too? Maybe if these “Christians” are allowed to fly their plane, I’ll rent a plane to fly over the Super Bowl dragging a banner that says “JESUS WAS NOT A REPUBLICAN – Luke 21:1-4″
