I think the best way to improve the site is to change the tone. You must learn to embrace Conservatism. You must learn to adopt right wing policies. You must learn to love your President, but only when he's a Republican. You are getting sleepy... sleepy....

I think for people who do the same thing every day, even if they love it, they kind of get used to it and forget how special it is. I think the quality of this blog has been consistently amazing, and helps keep me one step ahead of all the office Republicans despite the fact that I have a hard time keeping up with the news, much less interpreting it. So I definitely don't think the blog has "kinda sucked."

i like the way the page looks. people have offered some nice suggestions which you can take or leave, but whatever you do, DON'T lose the anti-bush image. I love seeing that when the page loads.

I second Earnest's suggestion regarding the Links. They're a bit hard to navigate, and they all seem equally recommended. Personally, I'd like to think you recommend, say, Ostrich Ink more than you would recommend, (Shudder), something like Instapundit.

Perhaps you could organize your links into categories like:

"Friends of TTS": This could include Briantology, and Mellifluence, Kristin's site, and Maybe Ostrich Ink, among others, of course.

"The Talent Show Recommends": This could be for sites you think people ought to be checking out ASAP. It could include links that normally go into another category but just happen to have something immediately interesting. Maybe this could just be one or two links at a time.

"Politics": Political Blogs, Which could be further divided between Liberal and not so liberal sites. Perhaps this ought to be further differentiated between sites you love and sites you just feel people should check out.

"News": Where Links to sites like Salon would go.

"Entertainment/Culture": For Ostrich Ink, should you decide they aren't a friend of TTS, and other such sites.

Just several thoughts. What do you think?

actually, the more i think about it, the more i have to say that you really shouldn't change much... at least not with the design. i agree with earnest... if anything, maybe a little more organization... perhaps a links page since your links scroll down so far. but the overall look of your blgo is so much nicre than anyone else's i don't think you should change it drastically.

I've been baffled by the way you've gotten your blog to look as good as it does already. If there were a change I'd like to see, it would be a different organization of your links area so that I'd know which are personal sites, which are news sites, and which are links to organizations.

Recent Comments would spotlight hilariously out-of-context soundbites from us kids responding to your posts? I'm down. Maybe also highlight new links in your left column in red, so people will see that they've been added. And also nudity and pizza.
