Dean for VP?
“Hey, if you don’t wanna loan me $100, that’s cool. I don’t mind taking only $500.” or something like that :
Howard Dean offered mixed signals Friday on whether he would consider a vice presidential spot on the 2004 senate ticket if his presidential campaign falters.Asked by a Milwaukee radio station whether he would accept the vice presidential nomination, Dean said he would to the extent it would help beat President Bush. But when asked later if his comments meant he would consider the second spot on the ticket, the former Vermont governor replied, “No, I’ve got to win first.”
Dean campaign spokesman Jay Carson said Dean’s remarks should not be interpreted to mean he is considering the vice presidency.
“He’s simply saying that he would do whatever is best for the Democratic party to beat President Bush in 2004,” Carson said. “He’s always said he’ll do whatever it takes to beat President Bush.”
Since I haven’t actually heard Dean’s VP remark or the context it was given in, I can’t say for certain whether or not he was fishing for a VP slot. I kinda doubt it, but if he was, then he’s dreaming.
There’s no way in hell that Dean will get a VP slot on the 2004 ticket (Not that I don’t think he’d do a great job). The fact is, right now he has very little to offer the party, since it seems like his army of supporters don’t bother showing up to vote. Considering the crap that John Kerry is taking for being a “New England Liberal”, the Democrats would be crazy to put someone like Dean on the ticket instead of somebody like John Edwards or Bob Graham.
If we’re gonna try to give Dean another job (since he seems to be failing his current “job interview”) how about replacing Terry McAuliffe as the head of the senate National Committee? It would be a perfect place for Dean to take advantage of his two biggest strengths, speaking articulately about the issues and raising tons of money.

I’ve been a Dean supporter for a while now, (Even donated here and there) and I’m quite disappointed to see his campaign flame out like this. Early on in the race, he seemed like the only Dem actually contributing something new and aggresive to the race.
Still, I think you’re right. He may not have what it takes to get to the Whitehouse, as it would appear he has more to learn about reigning in his troops (and his staff from the looks of his budget), but as has been said here and in a million other places, he’s really given the dems their balls back.
As long as they don’t forget that, and provided they’re not so short sighted that they assume dems with fight in them isn’t a good policy even if we don’t win this year, he would make a hell of a better DNC chairmen than the one we’ve currently got.

Check out this thread at Daily Kos from earlier today. It is a great suggestion on what Dean should do after the race, if not immediately. I threw a few comments in towards the bottom of the thread.
The truth is Dean doesn’t really match up as a VP for Kerry at all. Edwards or Clark, maybe….
If he can’t be President (a damn shame in my opinion), he is perhaps best-suited as the new McAuliffe

I’ve been picturing Dean headding HHS, for some reason that I can’t quite put my finger on.
