Everything Old Is New Again

If the furor over Bush’s national guard service is any indication, nobody remembers a goddamned thing about the 2000 election. This is great news! If they want to smear Kerry over campaign contributions from lobbyists, just bring up Bush flying around in Enron’s jet. If they show that ludicrous picture of Kerry sitting in a crowd with “Hanoi Jane”, show the picture of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein. If they say “speaking fees”, bring up Colin Powell. Make a passing reference to smoking pot so you can bring back the charges about Bush being a cokehead. Ask some more questions about Bush’s drinking and driving, his mocking of the execution of Carla Faye Tucker, perjury, insider trading, etc. Since nobody was paying attention the last time, bring it up again! Maybe this time, people will listen.

[Update : Just for kicks, remind me of your favorite bit of Bush gossip that hasn't been mentioned since 2000. I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty of stuff.]

  1. Don’t forget to talk about Powell’s admitted casual use of ambien, an addictive prescription drug. As seen here: http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2003/26028.htm
