Nobody Remembers?
I haven’t been following the newest developments in the Bush/AWOL story, but it seems that there are a few extremely vague documents that may or may not exonerate Bush. I’ll leave it to the experts to make that determination, but here’s the thing that I find really surprising : If Bush really did do his duty, why hasn’t anyone stepped forward yet to vouch for him?
I went to high school for a year with someone who left school early to become a supermodel. At the time, I barely knew who she was, but once somebody pointed out a magazine cover with her face on it, I suddenly remembered the class we had together and where we each sat. Despite the fact that I’d never spoken a single word to this girl, it seems that fame has a way of jogging the memory.
Keeping that in mind, how can it be possible that nobody who served with Bush in Alabama and Texas has any memory of working or hanging out with the most famous person on Earth? Unlike my freshman latin class, doesn’t the National Guard foster a sense of camaraderie? Hell, it’s not like Bush was a wallflower who spent all his spare time in the library. He was a cokehead! And it’s not like people are being asked to recall a specific incident. How can it be that not a single person even remembers being in his presence in any capacity over the period of a year?
