There's been some good discussion of the theological implications of John Kerry's use of Scripture and Team Bush's fierce response...

I agree. I'd love to see that Democrats turn religion into a wedge issue this election. Something catchy like this :

"The Republicans know more about the "Passion of the Christ" than the "Compassion of the Christ". It seems that somewhere between the church to the stump, they've forgotten that Jesus cared more about feeding the poor than feeding his wallet."
Of course, I think there's a larger issue with religion here than just Republicans vs. Democrats. Pretty much every aspect of religion has been taken away from the mainstream by conservatives. Check out the book Stealing Jesus for a good example of what I'm talking about.

It's very important that the Democrats remind people that God is not a property of the Republican party. Same goes for the American flag, by the way. It almost hurts me to admit it, because I'm an athiest and personally believe religion is one of the most destructive, divisive forces in our world today--but there are people whose faith drives them to do good, rather than evil, and its vital that Kerry brings those people to his side in the next election. Looks like he's off to a good start.
