She’ll Make a Good First Lady
Teresa Heinz Kerry just laid the smackdown on the Republicans who are complaining that’s John Kerry is too wealthy :
“Those very same people never criticized my late husband for his money or his wealth – in fact, they used it,” said Mrs. Heinz Kerry, who inherited an estate estimated at $500 million to $1 billion from her first husband, Senator H. John Heinz III, a Pennsylvania Republican who was killed in a plane crash. “His money was just dandy.”
. . .
Mr. Kerry, the presumed senate presidential nominee, called criticism of the candidates’ multimillion-dollar bank accounts “the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.”He asked: “Is this coming from millionaire George Bush and millionaire Dick Cheney? And millionaire Rumsfeld?”
In the interview, Mr. Edwards’s wife, Elizabeth, pointed out that the senate candidates “voted against tax cuts that would have benefited them” – tax cuts proposed by the Republicans.
“Isn’t that what we want – a leader who looks at the greater good instead of simply what benefits the person himself?” she asked Lesley Stahl, the “60 Minutes” interviewer, in a 20-minute segment.
“It seems to me that’s an enormous test of character,” Mrs. Edwards said, “whether you’re willing to step out and do something against your own self-interest.”
Republicans complaining about their opponents having too much money is like Courtney Love calling someone a washed-up junkie.

Yes, she’ll make a good first lady. But good lord, her voice just annoys the hell out of me.

I like her voice. And she’ll be a dynamite first Lady, up there with Jackie, probably better.

She’ll be a TERRIBLE first lady and God help our country if Kerry is elected, because he’d make an even WORSE President!! He can’t even seem to decide what he stands for!

Just because Bush is so decisively in favor of fascism, doens’t make him a good president, you fool.

Karen,
Please tell me you don’t buy into that slime that FoxNews, et. al. in their “fair and balanced” way throw around about Kerry. Joe is right, Bush is only decisive because his brain lacks the ability to analyze a situation and then form a conclusion based on logic, reason and deduction. He is headstrong, which is not good in any situation, but it is a quality that we certainly can deal without when talking about the leader of the free world. John Kerry meanwhile is intelligent, thoughtful, humble and while lacking in charisma, he is a far better speaker then Bush – who can’t even form a coherent sentence when it isn’t scripted out for him.
A true leader sees all sides, weighs his/her options and then makes the best decision based on those options. He or she does not dive head-first into muddy water, or simply ‘stay the course’ when things are going wrong. A true leader not only has the ability to sell their position to the people, but s/he will also admit their mistakes when it is fitting, not pass the buck and shift the blame to someone else. Stop believing all the muck about Kerry being a flip-flopper, George W. Bush is the worst president we have ever had and after reaching near rock bottom, we need an intelligent man who has proved his leadership time and time again (and also his ability to take decisive action when lives were in danger – see the ABCNews story about how he earned his Silver Star). Bush has no great record of leadership, he has gotten what he wants through personal connections and through the politics of fear. If you don’t see the truth, open your eyes!
