Bush Is A Goddamn Wimp

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it (and I predicted it here and here). Bush is gonna try to weasel out of debating Kerry (via Kevin Drum) :

President Bush’s campaign won’t say for sure whether he will agree to the three debates proposed by the independent Commission on Presidential Debates, or if a Republican strategist was right this week when he said the Bush campaign would agree to only two debates.

The commission, without a formal agreement by the Bush camp, set debates for Sept. 30 in Coral Gables, Fla.; Oct. 8 in St. Louis; and Oct. 13 in Tempe. A vice presidential debate between incumbent Dick Cheney and senate presidential nominee John Kerry’s running mate, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, was set for Oct. 5 in Cleveland.

GOP strategist Scott Reed was quoted by the Reuter news agency this week as saying the Bush camp’s position is that “two debates are sufficient and will not dominate the entire fall schedule.”
. . .
Former Wyoming GOP Sen. Alan Simpson, who was on the commission when it proposed the three debates but who now is helping the Bush-Cheney campaign, said the idea that the Bush camp may want only two debates is “very disturbing.”

I apologize for the crude and chauvinistic language, but I can’t think of a stronger way to put it : George W. Bush is a pussy.

Like I said before, “Kerry should publicly challenge the President to weekly debates every time he’s near an open mike.” While Bush’s defenders will say something like “the challenger always wants to debate more than the incumbent”, it doesn’t account for the fact that this is the latest in a string of wimpiness on Bush’s part. Just like in the 2000 election (both primaries and general election), Bush is afraid to go on stage and defend his agenda. Based on the parade of moderates and the non-stop Kerry bashing at the convention, it’s likely that he can’t.

  1. You can spread the insults around a little more can call him a weenie. How’s that?

  2. He’s a coward, who his handlers can’t count on to perform solo. Witness the latest gaffe about not being able to win his War on Terra – or any of his solo press conferences.

That’s a much more accurate and withering characterization than “pussy.” I understand your anger though – today I had to censor myself at my blog when I was writing about a Halbfinger story in the NYT. I have added incentive though because my mom reads my blog ;)

  4. I agree, Kerry needs to bring this up at every opportunity. Something like, “The American people want us to debate, and I want to debate the President. Why won’t he agree to the three debates? Is the President a fucking coward?”

Okay, maybe not that last one. But you get the idea.

  5. It’s consciousness-raising time –

“I apologize for the crude and chauvinistic language, but I can’t think of a stronger way to put it : George W. Bush is a pussy.”

I was pretty annoyed to see an otherwise fine fellow like you using language like this. You wouldn’t say that GWB had declared war against the “towel heads” or that he had “jewed” somebody in negotiations. The resouces of the English language are truly magnificent. There’s no need for gratuitous misogyny.

(Does your girlfriend think that language like this is insulting to women?)
