Hey Republican ladies…why aren’t you more offended by the attacks on Teresa Heinz Kerry? Yes, she’s prone to making some pretty spectacular gaffes, but aren’t you a little put off by the comment that seems to follow every one : “Why can’t Kerry tell his wife to shut up?” It’s particularly galling that the calls for Heinz to fit into some timid First Lady mold (and I don’t mean this as a slam on Laura Bush) are coming from the supporters of a man who’s acted so retarded for the last four years that everyone’s forgotten about Dan Quayle.

Forgive me for being wussy here, but I don’t want a President who feels like he needs to control his woman. If anything, I find it refreshing that John Kerry doesn’t seem to care about all his wife’s misstatements. It may be unusual to some, but there are a lot of guys out there who are actually attracted to women who have their own opinions and aren’t shy about expressing them. Even if it sometimes gets them in trouble.
