I don't think this healthcare stuff, if it had happened pre-election, would have appealed to anyone who wasn't already planning to vote for Kerry anyway.

I think the most important part of this message isn't so much the healthcare part as the remark at the beginning of his letter about standing firm against right-wing extremist. Good stuff, at a time when many Dems are talking about compromise.

Maybe it's a vast left-wing conspiracy. Lose the Presidency, lose even more control in Congress and leave the GOP in power long enough to shoot themselves in the foot. Once all of the social issues that republicans latched onto are used up, the people will realize they've been tricked. And if the GOP screws up badly enough, maybe we'll get a few decades of Democrats in power. Who knows.

There is something that doesn't sit right with me about this universal healthcare thing. One is, as pointed, why wasn't it presented before the election? Good question.

The other is I'm wondering if this is in anyway related to the Dubya initiative called the New Freedom Mental Health Initiative: 100% screening of all kids for mental health. Screening will be done by paraprofessionals or others not otherwise the usual providers of mental health care.

Could be a random connection. I've been wrong many many times. I hope I am.

I think this is the sort of thing that John Kerry should have done before this election. It's the sort of thing that really would have helped his election campaign.
