Must See TV

Did you guys catch Arrested Development on Sunday night?? I especially loved when George Sr., who has spent this season on the run from the law because he was building houses for Saddam Hussein, was found hiding in a “spider hole”. The followup scene, in which his grandson was combing through his beard and examining his teeth, was a nice touch. Not to mention the bizarre recurring Peanuts reference (complete with a beagle sleeping on an oversized red dog house). Seriously, if you haven’t been watching it, you’re missing one of the smartest and funniest shows on TV. The episodes have tons of narration, so you can start watching the show at any time without feeling like you’ve missed something.

  1. I love the dynamic between Michael and Ann.

We laughed the most last week at Gob’s very obvious and slapstick magic trick. The payloader immediately dropping the dirt in the grave was so funny. Poof Goof of the Week.

  2. i have mixed feelings about this show… i’ve been watching it after the simpsons this year… i like it okay… but i’m not blown away by it like so many other people seem to be. the tone of it seems a little too “malcolm in the middle.” though it’s way smarter than that show, the over-the-top-ness of it kinda bugs me and reminds me of malcolm. i wish the humor and tone was a bit more subtle- but then it would’ve never gotten past the pilot episode. it feels like it wants to be a really smart show, but it panders to the lower-denominator of the fox audience and ends up watering itself down too much. or maybe it’s adding too much sugar to the water. or some other bad analogy.

  3. I only caught the beagle sleeping on the dog house…What other Charlie Brown references did I miss?

  4. That gag, minus the doghouse, happened 4-5 times and was always accompanied by the song “Christmastime is here” which is the theme from the Peanuts Christmas special.

  5. I really, really loved not only the “Christmastime is Here” gag, but the fact that they delivered it in one of my favorite ways: Repeatedly. The first time it was funny; the third time it seemed strange that they were using it so much. But by the fifth time, it was fucking hysterical.
