The Green States?

Stupid quote of the day (via CrooksAndLiars) :

“I brought a visual aid. Even though this represents the red/blue county map, it’s actually green. I ran out of ink on my printer. See all this green out there?1 Those are all the people that are interested in the questions that I ask. “

Since JimmyJeff has fallen into the conservative trap of thinking that the abundance of red/green on the electoral map is an indication of an overwhelming red/green majority in the population, lemme pose this question in terms simple enough that even he can figure it out. In the electoral map below, which of the two states outlined in green represents more people? The large red state of Montana or the tiny blue state of New Jersey?

Not that I’m trying to make the argument that liberals outnumber conservatives or vice versa, I’m just saying that holding up a map and saying “look at all that red/green” as a way of backing up your point is pretty goddamned retarded.

1: JimmyJeff’s map sure does have a lot of green in the West Coast, New England, and Great Lakes regions, huh?
