Chuck Schumer nailed the "crybaby" description of The Option in 2003: "It reminds me of a spoiled child throwing a temper tantrum," Schumer said
in a written statement. As for the nuclear option, he said, it would
"vaporize every bridge in sight -- bipartisan or otherwise." [which is not saying his was first use of the phrase, though it was early]

Media Matters is all over this one. They've got it all documented. Specifically, they attribute the term "nuclear option" to Trent Lott.

<a href="http://mediamatters.org/items/200504260001" rel="nofollow">http://mediamatters.org/items/200504260001</a>

What really sucks, is that the MSM is repeating the lie that it's a Democratic term, AFTER properly attributing it to Lott in the past.

You know what's weird about "the nuclear option"? I can't seem to find references to it from before 2003. I can find references to Democratic Senator Harkin's wanting to kill the filibuster after the Democrats became the minority party in the mid-nineties, but that phrase "the nuclear option" doesn't really...um... proliferate until 2003.
