One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Due to the reaction he received to remarks that were wholly accurate and appropriate, a statement was released today that said :

“Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line…To them I extend my heartfelt apologies.”

If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was a United States Senator responding to critics who justify the use of torture, you would most certainly believe this must have been said by a coward, a wimp, or a chicken who has proven himself incapable of defending the truth against an onslaught of right-wing badgering. Sadly, that is the case. The quote above is from Sen. Dick Durbin, who won’t stand behind his own words…even when they’re right.

  2. The term is punk.

But you have to remember that each of these guys, on both sides, is terrified of everything since anyone and anything could get them defeated in the next election. It’s hard to have balls when they cut them off the minute you get elected to anything.

  3. What should have been said:

Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line…But I will not flinch in holding this country to the level of its heritage as a beacon of freedom, fairness, and hope to all mankind. My opponents may think of America as nothing more than its borders, symbols, and mineral rights. But we know better — as the Founders knew better. And if we cannot maintain the principles they set forth in the Constitution, and honor the guarantees they made to everyone under our jurisdiction, then we no longer have the right or the privelege to call ourselves Americans.

    But that’s just me…

  4. So when are Dana Millbank and the Washington Post going to apologize to John Conyers and The American People for their despicable comments about the DSM hearings?
