The Know-It-Alls at Fox News
This video clip[1]Which is truly insane. This guy thinks Rove deserves a medal for outing Plame. Also, his casual use of the terms “peacenik” and “wifey” makes me think he needs a slap upside the head. over at Oliver’s place has made me realize one of the reasons that I hate, hate, hate Fox News. Yeah, there’s the overwhelming conservative bias, but that’s only part of it. Even worse, to me, is the fact that every anchor has the exact same patronizing tone in his/her voice. It’s as if every inflection is meant to imply “If you don’t already agree with me, you’re a complete moron.” Granted, there’s plenty of this attitude in the punditocracy as well, but Fox is the only place that tolerates this sort of elitist swagger among its anchors. CNN and MSNBC have their faults, but neither network regularly lets their staff shoot off their mouths like a drunk uncle[2]I should mention that my uncle isn’t like this at all. at Thanksgiving lecturing everyone about how things work in “the real world”. I hate being talked down to, especially by partisan assholes, so I can barely watch more than five minutes of Fox News without wanting to punch the screen.

” I can barely watch more than five minutes of Fox News without wanting to punch the screen.”
Yet somehow we always do… And at least once a week I want to punch my radio into the dashboard listening to Rush.*
*that’s the evil, pill-popping fat asshole Rush, not the tremendous Canadian power-rock trio Rush—they make me drum on the steering wheel… :-)

That’s why I LOVE BBC, they’re like robots. No opinion, no emotion, just the news.
Leave the opinions and emotions to the viewer.
Of course the Beeb is state sponsored so they don’t have to vie with other stations for “the latest scoop”, they don’t have commercials, no singing frog, and no “Who Wants to Marry a [blank]“…
Damn commie crap.

I feel the same way when I watch ABC, NBC, and CBS.

Jill,
Also, any and everything on TV that claims to be news. Ooh, also, MTV NEWS!
You hear it first!

Five minutes! Five minutes!
You can watch five minutes of Fox News???
My god, this must be your mutant superpower or something. When I’m channel surfing and I hit Fox News, my reaction is about the same as noticing somebody pointing a gun at my head — I’m outta here!

Actually one of your uncles is exactly like that. We just keep him hidden for the sake of the children.

I think I have managed to stay clear of watching more than 1-5 minutes of Fox News since the tsunami disaster.
I stopped watching Fox mainly due to the fact that every interview dealing with the tsunami disaster had a serious right wing slant. Did they go into scientific reasoning as to why this happened? No, it seemed to be all about “the end is coming” “this was God’s will” and so on.
It was time to jump ship and find a better station to keep running in the background while I did other tasks. So I turned to MSNBC which did not look to be as God fearing and disgusting. However, MSNBC seems to be obsessed with putting Pat Buchannan on thier station every other day.
