Variations on a Theme
Granted, this is hardly insightful, but it’s been going through my head over the last few days. Anybody else starting to notice the common thread here between the judicial nominations, Bolton confirmation, the run-up to the Iraq war, and plenty of other stuff? It seems that the Democrats are always asking for enough information to make an informed decision and the Bushies jump the gun and do whatever the hell they want. Whether it’s stonewalling on documents or pulling out the U.N.’s arms inspectors before they’ve completed their investigation, the Bush Administration doesn’t want the American people to have any information.

I didn’t think it was so much a “pattern” as a policy. Don’t they have a quilt with “Documentation Just Causes Problems” embroidered on it at the RNC headquarters?
Probably, the explaination is more like this: Bush is a “regular” guy (who just happened to be totally rich and graduated from an Ivy League school) and since he’s kind of your buddy, buddy, there’s no need to ask him for proof. Don’t you want to be his friend? Then why don’t you just trust him?

Goes along with nominating someone without a track record to the SCOTUS. If they don’t have a track record, how can you find out what they are really thinking ?

It’s a pattern AND a policy!
It’s really part of the continuing Repub./BushCo. spousal-abuse relationship: he abuses her; she keeps hoping, trying, working to help him change; he never does, just goes on doing whatever the hell he wants, contrary to any appearance of cooperation or lip-service given to being a better person.
Sound familiar?

They don’t just “jump the gun,” they actually blame Democrats for being obstructionist.

I sent a scathing email to president@whitehouse.gov on the Bolton nomination, comparing his actions to Cheney’s “GFY” comment. (Unlike Cheney, I was at least polite enough not to spell out what the “F” stands for.)
It won’t make a whit of difference of course, but at least it made me feel better (which is what Cheney said about his GFY comment too), unlike trying to be “reasonable” with these a**holes. I’d given up on that long ago.
