An Interesting Bike Ride

Today George Bush is going on a bike ride with seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong. It’s a win-win situation for both since it will give Armstrong, who’s been rumored to be considering a career in politics, some face time with the President and it will give Bush an excuse to piss away the entire day without doing any work. Like Colin Powell ten years ago, Armstrong is poised to be an enormously popular political figure without the public knowing anything about where he stands. As an early indicator, here’s a picture of Armstrong’s girlfriend :

I’m sure he and the President will have a lot to talk about. Maybe they’ll even ride by Camp Casey.

  2. Hmmm…I wonder if this relationship with Armstrong is just Crow’s way to get more attention to her musical career. Honestly, I didnt even know she was still alive.

Do you think Bush will actually ride with Armstrong or will he be in some sort of little presidential buggy with 15 secret service men between him and Lance.

  3. There’ll be enough mutual ass-kissing that actual topics like the War will never come up.

It’s interesting to note that Lance never went on one of these rides before he retired. Probably nervous President Faceplant would wipe out and cause Armstrong a career-ending injury…

  4. Maybe Lance’ll borrow Sheryl’s shirt for the ride…

  5. for the record:
    1) sheryl crow is immensly talented and staunchly democrat

    2) she supposedly gets labelled as republican or “right wing” precisely BECAUSE lance leans that way.

    just sayin….

  6. yea, that is a great t-shirt. I think Lance should borrow that. I wonder how far they will ride thier bikes. and do the secret service men follow them on bikes too?

Sounds like we should watch SNL this week. If they don’t do a skit on that, they missed a golden egg…

    ;-)

  7. I’m sure Lance wouldn’t risk injury before retirement, that’s gotta be it! I’d feel safer riding next to my 5 yr. old… he weaves but at least is predictable — always going forward, full speed ahead!

Sheryl’s music never did much for me. It’s a delicate balancing act letting your politics out into your music (unless you’re Billy Bragg), so I give her some credit. She is easy on the eyes, though.

Watching Lance closely in the political future. He might be great, he might be another “win at all costs” GOP attack dog… or somewhere in the middle. We’ll see!

  8. Small world. My high school crush used to date one of Sheryl Crow’s exes.

And if even half of what I’ve heard about Sheryl through this admittedly distant remove is true, she is incredibly mercenary about her career and will walk over anyone to get what she wants. Hopefully she’s changed, but few people get high-powered careers without being at least somewhat like that.
