I don't expect much that is good to come out of Texas, at least in politics. The rest of the news that I've heard has been good, but lets not get arrogant or trumpet to the heavens about a trend. Let's just call it a start.

We just need to took to the great state of Texas to see that the voters have approved a Constitutional ban on gay marrige!
Those "defending marriage" initiatives pass so easily, defeating them in states like Texas is damn near impossible. You're right that this sucks, but it was never something I expected to see defeated.
In addition, the newly elected gov of Virginia, loudly flaunts his religion.
Now let's take a step back here. Is Kaine a theocrat or just a guy who's comfortable talking about god? I'm an atheist to the core and I think Democrats could stand to inject a little faith on the stump. The question isn't whether or not someone "flaunts" their beliefs, but how those beliefs affect the way they govern.

I was pissed earlier this year when the Dems in the Senate choe pro-life Harry Reid to be their leader, but he's proven his commitment to progressive values over and over again. I didn't pay attention to the VA governor race, but I'm willing to give Kaine the benefit of the doubt for now.

Damned straight. Now we just have to figure out how to make Schwarzenneger pay us back. A check made out to the Department of Education would do nicely.
