Return to Bushville

Two years later and our cartoon short “Brother, Can You Spare A Job?” is still getting some attention, this time from animation partal Channel Federator, who are delivering the short in a format suitable for video iPods and PSPs. [Note to self : Does this mean I can write-off some expensive gadgets?] You can view the short by clicking on the graphic below :

Here was my updated intro to the short that’s probably a little more partisan than it needed to be :
With the 2006 election coming up, “Brother, Can You Spare a Job?” is as timely as ever. The stocks soaring and wages shrinking, who’s on the receiving end of this economic recovery we keep hearing about? If things are going so great, then where are all the jobs going? As the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has shown us, poverty is a problem that’s getting worse and worse under the leadership of the Republican Party and their merry band of cronies and thieves. You’re doing a heckuva job, Bushie!

Having had some time to look back at the film, I think if we’d had it to do over again, we’d probably tighten up the pacing a lot. Timing the animation to the music worked well with the “Bush in 30 Seconds” short, but it’s a little much for some viewers in a 7-minute version. So while some of the comments at the CF site were predictable, others are hilariously off-base :

“Okay, I have to agree with everyone. Up ’till this point I have appreciated the ommision of political biases and opinions from CF. I don’t watch CF to get some serious message about the world and to blame all my problems on one dude I’ve never met. If this cartoon would have been funny, that’s one thing. Look, beside that, this short sucked my @#!. Please, put poop baseball in and do us a favor.”

I can’t think of a finer compliment for the cartoon than to point out how much it pissed off the guy who wanted “poop baseball”.
