Wishful Thinking
By the way, not that I really expected much of the Democratic response to the State of the Union, but wouldn’t it have been nice if they’d said something like this :
“In the last year, we saw the President end his vacation early and rush back to Washington early to try to save Terri Schiavo’s life, but when hundreds of people are drowning in New Orleans, he didn’t even realize how bad things were until days later when, as Newsweek reported, some aides burned a DVD of the news coverage. George Bush was one of the last people to find out that an American city was drowning because he lives in a bubble. Tonight the President said a lot about the threats that our country faces because he’s trying to scare you, but I’m not here to disagree about the dangerous times we live in. Instead, I want to ask you this question : When the next disaster occurs, do you trust the President in the plastic bubble to do a good job?…”
Blah, blah, blah…you get the idea. It’s nice to offer an optimistic vision and all, but sometimes you’ve gotta say “Our government is being ruled by idiots, criminals, and fuckups. You know what to do in November.”

Agree with you completely. But I’m told that would have been bad politics. Politics is what it is all about now, not governing. I guess you and I didn’t get the newest Kool-Aid flavor.

“I’m afraid our democratic colleagues are too busy playing partisan politics than trying to solve the…”
You’re right. That’s what they should have said. But sadly, our elected leaders are eunuchs, completely devoid of the balls it takes to really do something about anything.
I’ll keep voting Democrat in the hopes that things will get better, but I stopped respecting the party a good while back.

“Our government is being ruled by idiots, criminals, and fuckups…”. Finally, a democracy that is truly representative of the populace. What we need is honesty in political campaigning, the fuckup vote is overwhelminly republican in Florida this election. The criminal vote is split along blue and white collar lines and the idiots are voting in overwhelming numbers based on overthrowing Osama Bin Ladin’s government in Iraq before they get nukular technology that can be delivered through the mail in aluminum tubes….
