For the mid-term elections one should aim to throw out the incumbent! That is no incumbent hoping to be returned should be returned to congress.

That'll make them shit their pants.

MICHAEL:
I use the CAPSLOCK for emphesis and because I like to, as far as being BATSHIT, I fail to understand how standing up for my rights is BATSHIT. Perhaps ENCOURAGING YOU to stand up for YOUR RIGHTS is BATSHIT.

Sounds like you're almost ready to go to a party meeting... or go door-to-door, canvassing for a politician you support... or hold a house-party to raise money for a reform effort...or start a website dedicated to achieving a particular campaign...or vote for the lesser of two evils and "hope" they aren't evil. Despair leads to fascism, though.

Dave and Pickle:
When your first thought is I CAN'T then you never will. Naiveate has nothing to do with it, it's called backbone. It's called MAKE THEM COME AND TAKE THE MONEY. It's called standing up for your rights and yourself. It's called being a RESPONSIBLE AMERICAN CITIZEN. It's called doing it yourself, no one can or is going to do it for you. Otherwise, pop a beer and grab the remote, maybe you can catch a game.

Since our two-party system makes the "lesser of two evils" vote our most attractive option...

You can do something to change that. Support Instant Runoff Voting (IRV). It eliminates the spoiler dilemma, allowing you to give your first-choice vote to the candidate you love, and your second-choice vote to the (theoretically more viable) candidate you only-kinda-like, so you don't have to worry about accidentally helping to elect the evil enemy candidate you hate. If IRV had been used in 2000, Gore would've won, handily.

IRV is tried and true, it's constitutional, it's more democratic than our current system (in that it gives each voter more choice and more voice than they currently have) and saves taxpayer money, to boot (when used to elect a majority winner in a single election, instead of the two-election general/runoff system used in some municipalities). IRV has been the electoral system of choice for decades in Australia, London elects their mayor with IRV, and San Francisco recently switched over to IRV for their citywide elections. It's time for the rest of America to jump on board and put an end to the lesser-of-two-evils garbage that currently infects our electoral system.

To find out how you can bring IRV to your town/state and eliminate the spoiler problem, check out the Center for Voting and Democracy, at the following weblink:

For cryin' out loud. $#@! the Democrats! Really, it's time for "something entirely different".

I'm damned if I know what, though. I don't share Mike's rather naive faith in "the taxpayers", most of whom (in my opinion) are clearly part of the problem.
