Still, there are SOME who are still carrying the White House's water on the issue. I happened to turn to Tucker Carlson as he was babbling about it....he called Colbert disgraceful for bringing this up at a formal event....sad, all other forums have been taken away, we can't question the president, we can't dissent ever, now, someone actually gets into the room and tells the TRUTHINESS and guess what, it hurt! I say bravo to Colbert for having Cojones muy gigante! (sorry if misspelled).

I watched MSNBC last night and while they covered it better than most, they let the story be framed in terms of "who won". Stupid, stupid media. Terrible by Olberman standards.

This was about truth telling to power in the clearest possible way. Both to the news media which has failed us again and again, and George W who has always failed us.

"...reality has a liberal bias."

I think that got it all right there. The looks on the faces in the crowd were priceless. Either they didn't get it or they finally started to realize how fucked up our country is getting through Bush's team.

so, does he actually have them fooled into thinking he's on their side? or do republicans have a better sense of humor than i give them credit for?

i'm just baffled that he would get invited to speak there. i'm sure it won't happen again.

I loved it not so much because of the Bush reaction, but because it spoke to the press about how incompetent they have become.

Mr. Colbert spoke, in a serious public arena, on behalf of all Americans who have seen their "free press" get purchased and then sell-out.

Not so much truth to power as truth for the powerless.

Colbert did a brilliant job of slamming Bush with the deadest of pans, I agree. And the sour look on Bush's face – man, he was furious – was worth the price of admission right there. Helen Thomas was great, too.
Colbert's entire speech is also available as one file on Salon's Video Dog here, and his "audition tape" is here.
