Jason,

You don't have to be conservative to not like having another culture forced onto you in your own country, but you have to be a cowardly racist fuck to move away from a neighborhood because they want to teach your kid Spanish, and to say all Mexican-Americans do is "to carry a leaf blower, or sit on a riding lawn-mower, or flip burgers at McDonalds." I guess you've never heard of sweatshops or day-laborers? Illegal immigrants often are forced or conned into doing dangerous, backbreaking, and degrading labor, and the three Mexican Americans you saw once riding mowers recently do not constitute the majority of the workforce (nor were they illegals, probably).

As for having their culture "forced on you," can't you just skip that station on your radio and play what you want to hear? You sound so oppressed, but no one's stopping you from enjoying whatever culture you want. Do you hate gays too for having their own bars?

Anyway, if you actually observe second-generation immigrants of any ethnicity, they're more likely to be listening to the Cure and Rancid and get mohawks or whatever "normal" American kids are doing. It's not like immigrants now are going to make the whole country listen to Piolin and get mexi-mullets. You're being an alarmist for no reason.

To sum up, Mexican food is awesome, salsa dancing is better than square dancing, and by the way, fuck you.

It's even worse than that- at one of the 2001 inauguration parties, Jon Secada sang the national anthem in Spanish. Since those parties were very scripted, we can assume this was at the request of someone on Bush's team.

One of the reasons I recently moved (as mentioned in another comment I made here a few weeks ago along with crime, noise pollution, jobs, etc etc), was that my sons' school recently made Spanish a required class for all kids, whether they want it or not. Interestingly, the Hispanic kids in their own Spanish-speaking classroom are not required to take English.
You don't have to be conservative to not like having another culture forced onto you in your own country.
Hard-working? I guess. It takes a lot of effort to carry a leaf blower, or sit on a riding lawn-mower, or flip burgers at McDonalds. But it's true, those are jobs Americans would not be willing to do at the wages they get paid.

America has one national creed, but many accents. We're now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism, and culture. Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago, or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago or San Miguel de Allende. For years, our nation has debated this change — some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the New America.”
