I can't shake the nagging feeling that somehow our current political establishment got its hands on this cartoon around 2001-2002, and used it as some kind of rationale for its foreign policy. "Campaigns of terror", falling buildings, changing clothes in the stock room with the lights on... its all a little too weird for me.

And I agree - what's up with the bird? Does he avenge the mad scientist in next week's episode? And I would hardly call Lois the "Woman of Kleenex" - she flies her own plane for cryin' out loud!

I recall that being on Saturday Night Live: "What if Superman Had Landed in Germany?" ("Inspector, this man is a Jew!")

My only disappointment with this cartoon is that they don't pan a little lower on the newspaper page at the end to show another story that says "BIRD NABBED TOO"

I thought it was going to be one of those Korean Missles....

Other than Man of Steel Woman of Kleenex, my favorite Superman story was in Mad Magazine. The one in which his ship lands in Germany between the World Wars and he grows up as the Defender of Truth, Justice and the Nazi Way.... Closest thing he can be on this continent is be a Bush Repuglican.

Ah yes, those old "Superman" cartoons from Max Fleischer (of "Betty Boop" and animated "Popeye" fame).

Thanks for posting.

Since you like old cartoons, I was wondering if you ever saw those old "Looney Tunes" with racist characitures of Japanese people and blacks.
