Reading those comments side by side, you just don’t know how happy you make me. I am so certain that your party has gone so crazy, that you’re never going to be in power again until there is a huge shift to the right. I’ll be honest, I feel good about that. You should be scared, and I thank you for being scared, because when you’re scared, you don’t act rationally. And when you don’t act rationally, you lose. And of course, when you lose, you get scared - vicious cycle.

The point I wanted to make was simply that the majority of soldiers fighting in Iraq would probably rather be doing something else if they had the chance. A lot of people join the military because it’s their best opportunity to advance in life. It’s not a great institution, though. Some people rave about it, but when you’re in the military serving on the front lines, you lack certain freedoms, have limited access to luxuries, the pay and benefits stink, and you have the very real chance of getting maimed.

I also don’t believe his explanation. Let’s be honest, bright people with great career options don’t go into the military. People go into the military when they have no job prospects and/or no other alternative to get into college, or when they’re troubled kids that need “discipline” or “structure.” No one ever goes “My future is wide open, let me join the armed forces.”
