The guys who are “protecting the terrorist” are the guys who sent the military strength of the nation to Iraq rather than to Afganistan where the terrorist actually were.

Bush said that Democrats cared more about the troops than national security. The cited blogger argued that this was, demonstratably, the case.

The person I was talking to made the following comment, relevant to the “they care more about the troops” comment made by Bush.

Yes, in this case, Bush is saying they have bad priorities, or priorities he disagrees with: they’re just more interested in “special interests” than national security, in his view.

First, we must debate whether the charge is true or even at least plausible. Then we can decide whether Bush’s statement possibly reflected or merely avoided Democratic arguments and actions.

In this case, Democrats were saying they would block any bill which didn’t ensure all new Federal employees were union members (unions are a major supporter of their party). This was also a stance union leaders were demanding at that time.

Unions are, last I checked, a special interest group. And yes, it was clear the Democrats were blocking the bill for precisely that reason: they even said that was their sticking point.

I heard Boehner say on Tuesday:

We know what al-Qaeda thinks when America retreats from the battlefield. They think that we can’t stomach a fight.

We also know what al-Qaeda thinks when America continues to occupy a country it invaded without provocation, when it turns hundreds of Muslim civilians into collateral damage, and when it participates in a sectarian civil war.

They think we’re an imperial force who will do whatever we want regardless of who gets hurt. They think they need to keep up the fight. And they think, “Yay, more recruits.”
But I guess we’d rather give them more reasons to hate us than let them think we’re a bunch of pussies.

Gosh, Mick, you have my sympathies. I felt bad enough just being from Ohio, but at least he’s not my rep. Let’s give the guy a break, though; maybe he’s crying because of the ineptness of his party in creating this on-going fiasco the last four years. Then again, is crying supporting the troops?

Wow, Rep. Boehner (my Representative I’ll have you know) is such a sensitive guy, huh? Which reminds me — Boehner’s side says that if there’s a vote in Congress against the escalation, that the enemy would be bolstered and our troops would be demoralized. Two questions need to be answered then:
1. Since when did we care what the enemy thought?
2. Since when did our troops become so sensitive?
