Elizabeth Edwards
As depressing as it is to hear that Elizabeth Edwards’ cancer has returned, it sounds like this is as good a scenario as we could hope for. I’m not surprised in the least that the Edwards campaign “goes on”. From everything I’ve seen and read about Elizabeth, she’s seems to be even more into politics that John, so it’s nice to hear that they’ve still got the energy and motivation to continue.
I liked these comments over at The Carpetbagger Report :
In politics, it’s inevitable that public figures will have supporters and detractors. It’s just the nature of political interaction — people will react to high-profile figures in different ways.Elizabeth Edwards doesn’t fit into this mold at all. Everyone — literally, everyone — who knows her, speaks with her, or has any kind of interaction with her almost instantly loves her. She is so widely adored, I know people who went to work for the former senator’s campaign only after having been impressed with his wife.
To underscore this point, here’s a reaction to the Edwards new from The Corner :
The most endearing moment of this Edwards press conference: As Elizabeth Edwards was describing how she managed to break a rib — the cause of the pain that lead her to get medical treatment which ultimately revealed the cancer — Mrs. Edwards recounted her husband hugging her, the point at which she noticed something wrong with her..After she went through the details, John Edwards jumped in and said, “actually, I was beating her,” as he made a ridiculous arm and hand motion, looking clearly like a guy who wouldn’t even know how to hit his wife. It was a playful, endearing moment, the kind that one imagines helps a couple that has some real love between them get through yet another painful family time. The Edwards family has had more than their share of those hard times.
It’s nice to see some empathy and kindness cross partisan lines. I hope it lasts.

I’d be totally OK with President Edwards. He’s smart, and God knows we need to get some brains in the White House; and he has what looks like a real concern for the common man, a group I belong to.

Don’t you really think the right thing to do is what Edwards said before deciding to enter the campaign?
He said (see my blog for cites) he would not run unless his wife had a clean bill of health.
This is a serious situation for them–and the type of person I consider a real man would give up his ambition in a situation like this.

Perhaps Elizabeth wants him to run–regardless of her health.
That’s their business, not ours.

Mr Edwards did say he would not run unless his wife had a clean bill of health. She did have one at the beginning. From seeinig both of them in the public eye for the last ten years and reading their books I have figured out that they are a very strong couple and will be able to face whatever comes their way. I do think she wants him to continue and they will do wel I give her my best and my vote and support to Mr. Edwards.

He’s staying in the race for the sympathy vote.

The wife beating joke was only “playful” because it was done by a Democrat. I’ve been googling that comment to see if the MSM would mention it. So far, nothing. Had a Republican pulled the same faux pas, the MSM would have pounced like vultures on dead a elephant.
Ah, but the MSM will say, “Biased? We’re not biased!” That’s like the cowboy waking up strapped to his bunk in the barn, shouting to his bunk house mates, “Snore? I don’t snore!”

It is always possible that they are patriots who wish to change the course of the nation before it is warped beyond recognition.

Elizabeth: I have metastatic breast cancer, too. Our cases are quite similar, in that I was 55 when I was first diagnosed. My tumor was in the lower left quadrant of my left breast. I found it myself……not the mammogram. Me. It was less than 2 centimeters. It returned in my lung in two years. I am telling you this because I have read that you are blaming yourself for not getting regular mammograms and you think as a result your cancer has returned. I am one regular mammogrammer who’s cancer returned anyway…..EVEN with a 95%+ prognosis that it would not. It’s a crap shoot, Elizabeth. Not your fault. Do you hear me???? Not your fault. I just really wanted you to know that. Hang in there, Sister. It’s a rough ride. Blessings to you and your family, Sandra
