Madalyn Murray O'Hair got the symbol added to the official list and Richard O'Hair (a husband of hers) was the first to have it on a marker.

It's meaningless. A hydrogen atom would be more appropriate.

If I'm to have a symbol, it shall be one I respect.

And there's no emblem for Discordians ...

(It wouldn't surprise me if the Scientologists sued for lack of an available symbol, which they have. See http://mysite.verizon.net/sportinlife/postimages/scientology.jpg )

Scroll to the bottom and find this:

No graphics (logos, symbols, etc.) are permitted on Government-furnished headstones or markers other than the approved emblems of belief, the Civil War Union Shield, the Civil War Confederate Southern Cross of Honor, and the Medal of Honor insignias.

Are they saying the "Civil War Confederate Southern Cross of Honor" is still an option for any unreconstructed Southern racists who die in Iraq?

At least now I'll know what to look for on Trent Lott's tombstone.

That's way cooler than the symbol for humanists!

But wait -- why are the Christian Scientist cross and crown and the Muslim 5-pointed star copy-written?
