Crashing A Wake

Four almost four years now, the beach near Santa Monica pier has been the home to “Arlington West”, a tribute to the American soldiers killed in Iraq. Yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice a rather poorly-placed bit of oceanfront tomfoolery distracting from the memorial :

Though you can’t make it out in this grainy camera-phone photo, there’s a sign in front of the bubble machine to let tourists know that they’re in the “Slime Zone”. Classy.

  1. Forgive my ignorance, but what’s that supposed to mean? That the creators of this memorial are slimy? If so, why would they be slimy? Is this like the Texas memorial where righties thought it was disrespectful to mention the costs of the war so some dude ran a truck over it? If so, ugh.

  2. either that, or it’s in the spirit of that asshole from Kansas who protests gloatingly at soldiers’ funerals, saying they “deserved it for Amurrrika’s sins” and whatnot.

or….some stupid, self-centered California asshole just wanted to put up a bubble machine and be cute, without realizing where they were putting it.
