I agree. It looks and feels great as all Apple products do. Also, like all Apple products, as soon as you rush out a buy the expexnsive first-generation, the second, cheaper wave hits.

Hey! Yo mamma!
That doesn't explain why they didn't allow all vendors to supply simms for the iPhone, just why they chose lock-in for that particular vendor.

I’ve come to the realization that this blog is the electronic equivalent of an old, tired man complaining at everything any anything.

Most people figure that out within the first week or two. Thanks for reading.

Have you even picked up the iPhone and used it? You would change your mind in a heartbeat.

I have and it didn't. It's a cool phone, but a lot of the things that make it "revolutionary" are already in other phones. I've been touchscreen dialing, web surfing via Wi-Fi, and watching videos on my T-Mobile MDA for a year. That phone cost a fraction of what the iPhone does and didn't require a two year contract or a data plan.

Apple came out with a really cool phone that's only available through a single vendor. Aside from the cool design and intuitive UI, how is this much different than what Nokia, Motorola, Helio, or Samsung have been doing?

I'm with David. Waaaaaaaaaah. Have you even picked up the iPhone and used it? You would change your mind in a heartbeat. The positives far outweigh the petty problems you're stating above. And take a look at this to understand why Apple made the decision to go with AT&T. http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/jul2007/tc20070711_336357.htm?campaign_id=yhoo

I've come to the realization that this blog is the electronic equivalent of an old, tired man complaining at everything any anything. What's the point of reading this? I can't remember the last time you said anything positive (or more importantly, insightful). I'm taking you off my RSS feed list. Sorry.

Apple/AT&T's craftiness with the IPhone has really bothered me. Within the past year, it has become legal (as it always should have been) to unlock your cell phone so that you may use your cell phone with whatever carrier you choose. To keep people locked into AT&T with their IPhones, Apple manufactured the IPhone using a nonstandard, AT&T-specific SIM card design.

Of course, for those who own an IPod, then the IPhone really should just seem more of the same: Graceful UI, lacks a lot of features that are standard in other MP3 players, and locked into a specific service for content.

The Neo1973 ( http://www.openmoko.com/ ) should be a nice, open alternative. Not ready yet, though, unless you're a fairly hardcore techie. But spread the word.
