Yellowface
Quick question : What the hell is this doing in a movie in 2007?

Was there nobody on the set of “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” who stopped to say “Hey guys, this is racist”?

Seriously! At least Breakfast at Tiffany’s predates political correctness.

My guess is somebody said, “Can we make his eyes more slanty? What about a reference to eating dogs? This is going to be SO FUNNY, like ‘8 Crazy Nights.’”

Is there stuff I’m missing, not having seen the movie, or are you just talking about the picture? As an Asian-American, this picture is definitely raising some red flags, but I’m not sure it’s racist on it’s own.
Based on the previews I saw, it seemed like the entire movie was about how funny and distressing it would be if straight people thought they were gay. If not exactly homophobic, relying on implicit background homophobia for the humor.

If that picture is the most bigoted and unfunny part of “Chuck and Larry”, that movie will be much, much better than I’m predicting.

So if you are asian, is it still considered racist? Or just in poor taste? Because Rob’s mom is asian, folks.

??? Halfsies, why on earth would you think that the fact that the actor is Asian would prevent it from being a racist Asian stereotype?

well, i don’t know if you can actually count filipina as asian, tho everyone does. i don’t think rob’s ancestry from the philipines gives him carte blanche to make fun of chinese people.
it’s rather like saying a mexican can make fun of a puerto rican and get a pass. i know a few puerto ricans who would fight you on that.
irrespective of that all, the very homophobic premise of the film tells me it’s not anywheres close to being sensitive to how real human beings feel. that, plus having adam sandler as a star.
so, as autumn and others mentioned above, this is probably the least offensive of an already offensive and unfunny movie.

I’m most offended by the fact that Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider still have jobs.
