Puts the “Camp” in Jesus Camp
A few years ago, there was an episode of King of the Hill in which Bobby was dragged to the local church’s haunted house, where he encounters attractions like this :
MAN: Where’s grandpa?
(Enter a man in a gorilla suit.)
JUNIE: Ugh! That’s your grandpa?
MAN: Haven’t you heard? Our ancestors are monkeys!
WOMAN: Stop him! He’s eating the baby!
MAN: We can’t. It’s against the law to teach creationism.
What’s scary is that King of the Hill’s version doesn’t stray too far from the real thing.
If you’re lucky enough to live in Los Angeles, you can check out a hilariously ironic (but faithful) recreation at Hollywood Hellhouse. After missing it for the last couple of years, I finally got to see it on Saturday. Trust me, you’ll love it.

When you can’t teach with logic, just scare ‘um. Oh, those crazy Christians.

It’s so striking to me to see this stuff. I find it hard to believe that folks live like this every day. I can’t imagine looking at every moment of every day and onwdering if this is the moment that will send me to hell. How do they get out bed?

They’ve been “saved,” so they know that no moment in their life will send them to hell. In fact, nothing they ever do is really wrong, and no opinion can be misguided or questionable. And anyone who says different better get the hell out of the way.
