“…but is she ready to lead?”

Less experience than Obama? Younger than Obama? She doesn’t believe in global warming or know what a VP does? John McCain has only met her once? And she’s currently the subject of a corruption investigation? This is the person who John McCain thinks should be a heartbeat away from the presidency? Wow.

As Ezra put it :

She has no foreign policy experience. She has no experience making national policy. She has spent fewer than 700 days crafting statewide policy for Alaska. None of this is a moral flaw or personal failing. It just makes it hard to imagine her fit for the vice presidency.

This was, for McCain, a major decision. And we can learn from it. And here’s what even his supporters must admit: Country did not come first. Polls did.

Amen. This is Harriet Miers redux. The only difference is that the base is pretending to love it.

Also, can we stop talking about the predictive power of the free market now?

  1. What boggles the mind is that are we really to think that McCain actually thought ‘Other than me, who would be the best POTUS’? Clearly (god I hope not) he did not think ‘I know… Sarah Palin!!!’

    ‘America First’ I think not…

  2. Palin said, in a speech on Friday, that she was looking forward to breaking open the glass ceiling that was cracked by Hillary Clinton, or something to that effect.

But because Palin is stridently anti-abortion, it’s probably safe to assume that she would fight to outlaw it. Of course, this would once again relegate women to second-class status. In effect, she would replace one ceiling with another.

  3. And we were hoping for Joe Lieberman. They better hope she is a quick study. But what about the children? Does the family values party (and Dr.Laura) have a problem with her abandoning her “special need” infant?

  4. Agreed. It seems like a huge contradiction. I question McCain’s judgement in choosing her due to her complete lack of experience (mayor of a town of 6700, really?) . But I question her judgement for accepting. I certainly would not make the biggest career move in my life with a 10 month old special needs child- potentially uprooting my family and thrusting them all into the national (and global) spolight while I commit myself to a VERY stressful and time consuming job… Her timing and priorities seem way off to me. My family values dictate that I wouldn’t abandon my commitment to my family for my career.

  5. Aside from McCain’s belief that the Vice Presidency is an unimportant position, his choice of Sarah Palin is nothing more than extremely simple minded pandering. He actually thinks that, since Hillary Clinton did not get the Democratic nomination, Hillary’s voters will vote for the Republican ticket like sheep because of the mere presence of a female. We are talking severely diminished mental capabilities here. After watching Bush run rampart over the constitution, the economic health and the reputation of the nation, I should not be surprised by such an obvious self serving move. Yet I am.

  6. According to Mrs. McCain she is! Has anyone seen the video of Cindy McCain explaining Gov. Palin’s National Security Experience. The link is to the clip on my site. You’ve got to see it.
