Another thing worth noting in regards to the Frist analogy is that Bill Frist was a heart surgeon, which doesn't make him qualified to diagnose a patient with a persistent vegetative state. In this instance, my mother has more than 20 years of OB-GYN experience, has delivered dozens of babies, and spent the bulk of her medical career working with pregnant women. Since I don't have such expertise, I punted the question to her since the DKos diary in question seemed to my untrained eyes to raise some interesting questions that could be best judged by someone with expertise in this area.

As it turns out, the initial conclusion of the diary (which my mom didn't endorse) turned out to be wrong, yet the evidence did indicate that Palin's daughter was pregnant. That explains the baby bump in the photos, but I still think the fact that Palin would risk her health and the health of her baby by jumping onto an airplane when her water broke is needlessly dangerous. Not "let's keep talking about this until November" troublesome, but definitely odd.

As an aside, am I the only one who thought it was odd that Palin's announcement that her 17-year-old daughter was pregnant included an assurance that she and the father were going to get married? It bad enough that the kid got knocked up, much less that she's now going to rush into marriage while she's still in high school. I'm thinking she should probably stick to making one hasty, life-changing mistake at a time.

Having spent more time than necessary discussing all this, I think we can all agree that the baby weirdness in the Palin family doesn't even make the top 10 list of reasons why John McCain choosing her was a major mistake.

I was referring to the original question, not the part about being on an airplane while so many months pregnant -- that is obviously a foolish thing to do.

No Chris O. I don't think my statements were at all akin to Frist's since I didn't attempt to make a diagnosis. The fact that you made the analogy demonstrates your ignorance of obstetrics. I do not think you can find an obstetrician or OB nurse who would not agree Sarah Palin was foolish in traveling back to Alaska to have her baby. I do think the truth is even more interesting as it relates to abstinence only education and it's proven failure, statistically and anecdotally.

I dunno Damien, looks pretty much like the Frist case to me. Including now being demonstrably proven wrong?

See, abstinence only sex education did work. Bristol wasn't pregnant before she was pregnant. Everyone should have a giggle if they are so inclined and look for the governor's real weakness, her relationship to big oil, her adherence to faith based education, her willingness to tax big oil on the state level while opposing Obama's similar plan to do so on the national level and her recently disavowed support of the Bridge to Nowhere. Actually they are still planning a bridge to nowhere, but now it's for the country and not just Alaska.

Well, the campaign dispelled the rumor that Bristol was pregnant by announcing Bristol is pregnant.

Maybe she's just good at hiding her pregnancy. Like hiding evidence of evolution or hiding evidence of global warming. This doesn't matter unless it can be independently confirmed which ain't going to happen in the main stream neo-con press. I am more amazed by the sound bite that she took on big oil. How? The only thing I can find is a state tax increase on oil in Alaska which I suspect will be more than paid back by her support of giving away all the mineral rights in the Alaska wildlife preserves to those same oil companies.

Say hello to the stepford candidate America.
