Genesis 1:27, "So God made man in his own image".
Genesis 2:7, "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground."
Genesis 2:21, "And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, …the Lord had taken from man, made he a woman, & brought her unto the man".
From the above verses, it is obvious that God directly formed Adam & Eve instead of transforming from apes to them.

How is that ironic at all? What does evolution have to do with what happens after life? I'm confused on how your comment makes ANY sense at all, and you seem to just be a troll trying to get a rise out of people. I really dislike atheist trolls that try to explain religious/philosophical(in other words, NOT SCIENCE) with science. If science is the only thing you base your life on, that's fine, but don't push that on other people.

Ironic isn't it that at the same time the Catholic Church makes this apparent breakthrough, they have re-affirmed their age-old BS about the punishments that sinners will suffer in the mythical region of hell. To wit, that male adulterers will be continuously pelted with 'fire' and female offenders will suffer eternity on the breaking wheel. How, a rational mind (a generous assumption I know) could hold that Darwin is true AND that the punishments of Hell are also true, I cannot comprehend - but then I'm not addicted to a silly religion in the first place so mendacity is not native to me.
One step forward, a mile back: That's progress!

This isn't entirely surprising. For most of its history the Catholic church has not advocated literal interpretation of the bible. They embraced the Big Bang theory some time ago.

This will just feed the growing perception amongst the Dominionists that the Catholic church is in fact an instrument of satan and a tool of the evil secularists.

Although they still have a long way to go, at least some members of the Catholic hierarchy have a clue about how religion and science can be reconciled. Too bad the bible thumpers are just going to use this as more ammunition against them.

Uh, I hate to break it to you but Roman Catholicism has long accepted evolution. In fact, it was taught to me back in 1967 while in Catholic school.

this has been the RC position for years. i remember being taught by the nuns in the 70s of the wonder of god and his creation. he "creates" life by means of evolution by natural selection. nothing new here.
