Just think of all the players as a bunch of competing sperm, each seeking to deliver their "packet" to the "goal". The scientific literature has even documented "teamwork" amongst those little swimmers, with different sperms playing different roles - some offensive, some defensive, but all serving the same purpose - to "score one for the gene pool". Much more so if you're watching a football game between two strong defensive teams with shitty offenses.
