I see all sports involving "balls" as a metaphor for the fertilization process. Just think of all the players as a bunch of competing sperm, each seeking to deliver their "packet" to the "goal".

The scientific literature has even documented "teamwork" amongst those little swimmers, with different sperms playing different roles - some offensive, some defensive, but all serving the same purpose - to "score one for the gene pool".

I think it's meant to signify the swinging pendulum of time, ticking away the moments between the beginning of a sporting event and our inevitable trip to the grave. Much more so if you're watching a football game between two strong defensive teams with shitty offenses.

See? Sports ARE evil! They're microcosms of war!

Don't forget that the net sports are basically the same thing--tennis and badminton and volleyball are just attempts to get your object to stick on the other side of the fence.

Me? I like freeze tag.
