Pretty amazing that Reagan was able to tear down the Berlin Wall by simply yelling at it. I wonder what Gorbachev was doing at the time…

I never believed that Reagan wanted the Berlin Wall to come down. I think Reagan wanted the Cold War to continue forever, because it was “a kind of solution” for justifying already decided-apon policies. To pick my favorite example: an Air Force bomber crew was assigned to drop nuclear weapons on a railroad bridge in Bulgaria so small it was not on the targeting map. Why? Because the ICBMs would reach all the “more important” targets first, leaving table scraps for the bomber crews to consume. The aircraft companies were not about to point out how much money could be saved by threatening the Soviets with only ICBMs and nuclear subs.
