EXCLUSIVE : Bush’s Debate Notes

For someone who I’ve long suspected is illiterate, Bush seemed to be furiously taking notes yesterday. At times, the scribbling was so loud you could hear it over Kerry. Thanks to an undercover operative, The Talent Show is now able to present the notes that Bush took during last night’s debate. With this peek behind the scenes, we hope to provide a candid look at the commander in chief.

  43. #1- Bush only started writing notes half-way through- I believe because he saw Kerry doing so.

#2-”TheTruth”- you are sorely misinformed. It’s painful that half of the country supports someone so simplistic and inarticulate… It is possible to support a country and to want to support troops once they’re there, whilst understanding that Iraq is a country unrelated to Afghanistan and Osama, and a country we had no business or even supporting evidence to invade in the first place.

International politics IS complicated, and I would far rather have a president who understands that and thinks it through in its many layers than a president who not only seems to reduce everything down for the American populace, but seems to genuinely think in such a simplistic, repetitive, reactionary and BASIC way himself. Are we so stupid and unthinking of a people that most of us would prefer such a president? We need a better funded educational system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. “For someone attempting to call the President illiterate, you would do well to learn some grammar yourself.”

Actually, “For someone who I’ve long suspected is illiterate, Bush seemed to be furiously taking notes yesterday.” is absoloutely correct. Whom is alliterate?

    Comment by moonman — October 2, 2004 @ 2:17 pm

  46. The number of people who use “whom” and “who” wrongly is appalling. The problem is a difficult one and it is complicated by the importance of tone, or taste. Take the common expression, “Whom are you, anyways?” That is of course, strictly speaking, correct ? and yet how formal, how stilted! The usage to be preferred in ordinary speech and writing is “Who are you, anyways?” “Whom” should be used in the nominative case only when a note of dignity or austerity is desired. For example, if a writer is dealing with a meeting of, say, the British Cabinet, it would be better to have the Premier greet a new arrival, such as an under-secretary, with a “Whom are you, anyways?” rather than a “Who are you, anyways?” ? always granted that the Premier is sincerely unaware of the man’s identity. To address a person one knows by a “Whom are you?” is a mark either of incredible lapse of memory or inexcusable arrogance. “How are you?” is a much kindlier salutation.

  47. Rule of thumb: if it could be replaced with “he” in the answer, use “who;” if it could be replaced with “him” in the answer, use “whom.”

    “Who is that?”
    - “He’s the President, apparently.”

    “For whom are you voting?”
    - “Not for him!”

“You know, I think about Missy Johnson. She’s a fantastic lady I met in Charlotte, North Carolina. She and her son Bryan, they came to see me. Her husband PJ got killed. He’d been in Afghanistan, went to Iraq. You know, it’s hard work to try to love her as best as I can, knowing full well that the decision I made caused her loved one to be in harm’s way.”

It bears repeating… You know, it’s hard work to try to love her as best as I can, and keep in mind, he’s not talking about Laura, whom he wishes could be here today.

  65. I finally figured out why the Iraq thing bothers me so much - you can’t force people to embrace freedom and democracy. It has to come from within. Support them, encourage them, aid them, but you can’t do the dirty work. If the French had come marching into Boston in 1775 to say “Hey! you Americans! We’re going to free you from the English,” and then occupied New England, I’m pretty sure George W (and I don’t mean Bush) woulda been “insurgent” against the sheer arrogance of the French. Unfortunately George W (and I do mean Bush) has an arrogance that he thinks supercedes any nation, including his own.

This post represents a major policy shotgun, and therefore should be broadcast by all media. Extreme Pumpkins (Arts and Crafts: Seasonal) I only discovered this link after Halloween this year. This year I’m ready. Check out that lighter fluid pum…

  88. ROFL@ Liber-teed-off. Naw i don’t think bush is as much of a horndog as Clinton was. He gets his rocks off with his missiles not his flesh rocket. I’m of two minds about the whole Iraq thing. On the one hand anyone who thinks Saddamn Insane and Iraq should have been left alone is grotesquely wrong But I for one don’t appreciate our armed forces being used as U.N. attack dogs. So there’s the quandry. Do we take down a monster family like the Husseins? and when that’s done, when do we pull out? Do we rebuild all the shit we blew up? Or do we become pariahs among the great nations of the world by adopting a destroy and depart attitude? what I can’t understand is this: If the liberals who want to “save the world” by implementing socialized medicine (which is a terrible idea, ask the Canadians) and create a welfare state that will eventually bankrupt our country thereby turning the United States into another third world shithole won’t support action against Saddamn Insane and his Baath party, What DO they support? Bitching and moaning? Point your fingers and accuse Dubya of being a warmonger if you like, but it needed to be done. Now it’s time to come home.
    Support our troops!

  89. DISSENT, you are a racist SOB and probably a white supremist. Get a life; get a GED; get a better job so “the tired, the huddled masses” (that’s from a famous po-em; do you know what a po-em is?) don’t threaten your pathetic job sweeping up at Walmart. It’s frightening that such unenlightened boorishness and ignorance flourish under the rocks here in this country. Where did YOUR ancestors come from, and when? Quite obviously they weren’t Nobel Prize winners, unless you’re a case of “shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations”. You make me really disgusted; and it is the people with mentalities like your sick, small-minded one that vote for people like W. Racist pig.

  90. Thank you for your heartfelt and enlightening comments Nsoshisett. It is always refreshing to know that the information superhighway made its way to yet another trailer park. Some of MY ancestors were in fact white slaves from the Barbary coast enslaved by muslims and eventually escaped bondage to return to Wales. Complain to me about slavery and I’ll give you a few journal entries from MY ancestors. I was also a serviceman in the Army for eight years during desert storm. I KNOW what it’s like over there and I for one don’t wish to see the country I bled for given away to a bunch of undeserving louts, even ones born here. ME A FASCIST?!? far from it…a patriot through and through. And my “boorish” comments about wally world et.al., did you happen to catch the article in Time magazine about the illegals up from Mexico? 1.4 million per year. That’s not immigration, that’s an invasion. Then corporate america uses their cheap labor (ref. Tyson and Wal-Mart)to undercut the AMERICAN workforce to save a few bucks to pad their already too fat asses. call me boorish? I say you need to do a little more research you liberal freak!

  91. Oh and Nsoshisett is it? Parroting insults you have read in an AOHELL chatroom don’t qualify as intelligent statements. Come up with something original if you want to sit at the grown up table.

  92. Ah, thanks to all those who have participated in the hate mail. So, for the record I shall spell it out for all to see that you may put your minds to rest. I have been called a bigot, fascist, white supremist and vilified in numerous other ways. Here then is the straight of it (not that i have any REASON to justify myself to anyone). I have a few dozen mexican friends, acquiaintances and co-workers. Most of them speak english which I appreciate because my spanish is horrible. They are all here LEGALLY and have CITIZENSHIP because they did the thing right. They also have higher wages because of this fact. When you work in close proximity to imminent death or destruction like I have you learn to appreciate the MAN HIMSELF regardless of the color of his skin. I have no sympathy for those who would bilk the system or cheat and cheapen my country with their dishonesty and lies (just like Bush AND Kerry AND the 1.4 million illegals per year). So go ahead and vilify me if it makes you feel oh so superior. I’ve done the research, I’ve crunched the numbers and I know what’s coming.

  100. Dissent: you are the type of American we fear. I am sure your Spanish is horrible, you need to travel a little to understand other cultures and over all, your own.
Good luck to everyone. Here in Spain we are sure you’ll get rid of the garbage.

  101. Is any person in here actually IN politics? Maybe if you think you know what’s best for the nation as a whole, YOU should run for office instead of sitting at your comfy seat in front of your screen instead of destroying two guys that are doing something other than resting on thier laurels.
By the way, has anyone actually thanked dissent for his time in service?, I do.
I think it’s unfortunate when the only people who appreciate the servicemembers are the other servicemambers.
Thanks to ALL men and women in OUR Armed Forces.

  103. Hey you shouldnt write that kind of stuff about Bush when you know its not true.

Hahaha just kidding…im not that stupid. Although maybe if i were a little stupider i could be elected president like GW.

    Comment by alex — October 14, 2004 @ 1:46 am

  104. LOL. I can tell most of you vote based on your ability to joke about a candidate. How fun! :)
However, unlike you, I am an independent voter who actually looks at (gasp) the candidates voting records and congressional reports, not Hollywood actors or even most of the newspapers. But I assess that most of you are juvenile. I do hope that someday when you get older, you will figure out that Hollywood actors and newspapers are far from accurate with information and that your parents are probably tied to a particular party (and maybe you too) because your family has ALWAYS been affiliated with that party. So, until you mature and take on the responsibility to review voting records of each candidate, I can only pray that your blind affection for Kerry will only open your eyes when he taxes every cent of your hard earned money to the point that you have to live with your parents….oh yeah, maybe you already do.

  107. Dissent,
I respect you for standing up for America in the armed forces and do understand your concern about illegal immigration. Legal immigration is one of our country’s strongest points however. It just seems that the immigration quotas are arbitrary and/or agenda-driven.
If you think that Bush and the Republican Party are protecting American jobs, though, you are sadly mistaken. They say that outsourcing jobs is good for American business. It may be good for each business but the cost saving is never passed on to the American consumer. And meanwhile Americans lose jobs and have more trouble affording to buy American products.
John Kerry and the Democrats oppose outsourcing American jobs and have introduced legislation to protect them.

  110. Dear Mr. Nader supporters,
I listened carefully to your 80 minute speech on C- Span. I?ve known since age 10 that you were right in everything you said. I believe most Americans would be happy to have you as President; it would make me scream with joy.

Please be right in everything you do. Consider the following:

    1) You didn?t emphasize the most needed election reform:
a two round runoff election which ensures that no one will fear voting their conscience.

This would protect the voter from choosing his least desired candidate by default. If we were guaranteed a runoff election, then our conscience would tell us to vote for you.

Under these dicey circumstances, everyone?s conscience, (including yours we hope) is telling us to do the right thing: to vote against Bush effectively.

    2) You stated that you will never abandon your adherents. Yet you are abandoning the ?frightened liberals,? the enlightened Republicans, and even your supporters.

Standing on principle in the face of reality will set the independent movement back. There is no need to do that.

Getting off the horse on November 2nd does not mean surrender. Getting back on November 3rd will find us back together again, continuing to educate the 95 million non-voters.

    3) You used a political explanation to excuse non-voters. You say they don?t vote because it doesn?t make a difference in their lives. The truth is they?ll choose not to vote, even for you. Unfortunately, you were unable to get to them.

We all hope that the consequences of your actions relating to the last election will convince you to pull out of the race. This would provide you with a wider media forum for your ideas.

You share the consequences for the war in Iraq and other horrors. You could not have known what your decisions in the last election would bring.
    But now you do.

Turn, turn, turn, there is a season.
Your next season starts November 3rd.

Thanks for fighting for the ?Grand Tradition.? I hope you?ll ?vote your conscience? to save the good name we?ve made in the independent parties movement. It?s the ?only way to go.?

Democracy cannot take a vacation, but you should take a day off.
