Kick Him For Me
Here’s a little treat for you in honor of the closing of Abu Ghraib prison. Remember when the scandal first broke and John Derbyshire said :
The Abu Ghraib “scandal”: Good. Kick one for me. But bad discipline in the military (taking the pictures, I mean). Let’s have a couple of courts martial for appearance’s sake. Maximum sentence: 30 days CB.
Well, here’s a video of tough guy Derbyshire getting his ass kicked by Bruce Lee. Derb’s the one in the striped shirt.
You’ll have to kick him a lot harder than that to knock some sense into him, Bruce. There’s more info about his brush with greatness at Wikipedia.

I don’t have the sound on my computer - is there a wawa pedal going on in the soundtrack? I keep expecting people to start taking off their clothes.
Bruce Lee sure is handsome though.

You are one silly twit! I have seen you at the Anvil getting it up the you know what, and Man are you loose…

Why didn’t Bruce put a pair of panties on his head and build a naked human pyramid with Derb and friends?
Since Mr. Lee isn’t an ‘anglo-saxon democrat’ he would probably think that would be torture…

US says to close Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison
The US military will close Abu Ghraib prison, probably within three months, and transfer some 4,500

Priceless. What a great find.

I wouldn’t have believed it, even though I can clearly recognize his face, if he didn’t explain it himself.
The Derb is a much cooler guy than it seems, I think.

Obviously rhetoric is not reality, and humor is really not reality, but the kind of “vibe” that I’m seeing here is one of the reasons why I’m a Green rather than a Democrat.
One frequently sees comments and replies from Democrats complaining about how the Conservatives encourage violence, followed up by jokes about “Ha ha, when we get the whip hand we’ll kick them and see how they like it.”
On the other hand, one of the four fundamental values of the Greens is Non-Violence.

– If you wouldn’t want somebody doing it to you, then don’t do it to others, or think that it would be funny to do it to others.

Not having a sense of humour is also a pillar of the Green community, as well as being completely detached from reality and critical thinking.
Do you guys still think Bush and Gore are identical? Do you think it doesn’t matter if we give Republicans absolute power over the USA? After all, they’re no different than Democrats, right?

I enjoyed reading Derbo’s article about his time with Bruce Lee, and I enjoyed watching him get beat up. Who new Greg would turn me into a (very, very brief) John Derbyshire fan?

(ugh, “knew”)

anon, I’m a Green too (and you’re wrong, Von Rex). There is an ocean of difference between condoning genuinely outrageous acts of violence, and poking fun at the assholes that do the condoning (even if that fun involves violent language and images). Are you truly not capable of seeing that?
I doubt anyone here would condone any real violence against the Derb. Er, right guys?

This point is why I am still pissed at some of my friends who voted for Nader. Some of them have come to realize how socially conservative he is on many issues, and how much baggage he has.
Rob G: if Von Rex is wrong, in what way is he wrong?
Humorlessness and Pecksniffery are the hallmark of Naderites. Not Greens per se.
Finally, John Derbyshire is a borderline pedophile and really nasty. He’s a bad piece of work, and I wish him ill. That said, I don’t wish him physical harm.

Max Renn, he’s wrong about the sense of humour thing. Somehow I think he’s confusing Greens with Ayn Randians. Or Moonies.
I don’t wish Derbyshire and his ilk ill. I just wish they had the credibility they deserve. None.

John Derbyshire. He’s the words-fail-me who wrote that Chelsea Clinton should be killed because her father was Bill Clinton. Kicking him in the face isn’t nearly enough.
